If you’re a start up business, or starting your business while you’re still working, you know you need a website but do you have the budget for a designer?
If the answer is no (and a good website will cost you £2k or more – I know because that’s the minimum I charge!) then DIY is your only option – but where to start?
Frustrating, isn't it?
Everywhere you turn, whether it’s networking, shows, events, phone calls to prospects… they all want to see your website!
Having a website is a basic marketing tool that your potential customers and suppliers can check you out on before they do business with you.
Your online marketing efforts should point to your website. It makes you look like a serious business.
Your business card should include a web address.
Prospects should be able to find you by doing an online search.
Let’s face it, you can’t be taken seriously without a website. And a poorly designed website is even worse than no website!
So if you don’t have a spare couple of thousand to pay a designer to build you one, then DIY is your only option.
But what if you’re not that technical and don’t really know where to start?
Here's the good news...
I’m Vee Smith. I’m the Biz Tech Wiz and I help people like you to create websites they love and online marketing systems that help them grow their businesses – even when they think they’re rubbish at tech! I've created an online training programme where I show you, step by step, how to...
This is for you if...
You’ve just started your business on a shoe-string budget which means you haven’t got thousands to pay a web designer to build a website for you.
You’re not techie but you are willing to learn how to build a website.
You don’t want to spend months sifting the web for tutorials, half of which are out of date or give bad advice or are just difficult to follow
You just want someone who understands what is needed for a start-up business website and show you how to build one in the easiest and simplest possible way, with no flannel or geek-speak so you can get on with getting and serving clients and making some money.
The Biz Website Course is for you if you’re starting a new business, aren’t too technical and want to be shown how to build your own website that’s both attractive and client converting in the simplest and easiest way.
Each of the 10 modules is delivered through a 10-20 minute video where you literally sit on my shoulder watching me explain what I do so that you can pause and repeat what I’ve done.
With each module are links to my favourite resources and cheat sheets which makes the process of building your website even simpler and quicker.
PLUS you get all my insider pro-tips and best practice that, up to now, only my web clients have had access to.
Great Value for Money
“I was very cynical about the course - would it be value for money? Would it give me what I needed? It delivered on all counts! I built my first website in 10 days and now have a website I can build on and I would be happy to offer a basic website build to new clients.”

6. Making your site safe from hackers
Plugins are like the sauce that make your website extra nice and safe. This module is about installing plugins that will keep your site safe from hackers, spammers and email skimmers.
7. More essential juiciness
Plugins are like mini-programmes and can do all sorts of magical things. This module we install plugins that take care of your legal obligations (privacy, cookie compliance) as well as cools things like Google Analytics, social media sharing.
What makes people and search engines come back to your website? Fresh, regular content. That’s what blogging is for. Here’s how to set up the blog and a template to make it easy to delegate when you’re too busy to do it yourself. I’ve also included a bonus module of how to use Canva – a great easy to use image creation tool that you can create your own royalty-free images.
9. Getting their details
Capture the details of people who visit your site so you can continue the conversation by providing some useful information in exchange for their contact details. This module covers how to create and embed a sign up form. We also create an autoresponder that delivers the free ‘useful information’.
10. Nurturing and bringing them back
Also known as the regular newsletter. Once you’ve captured details, we don’t let those interested contacts (potential clients) fester in your database! They signed up because they want to hear from you! I show you how to create a newsletter (we use Constant Contact as it’s really easy to use) and share some best practice that will make sure your time is used wisely and your newsletter leverages all your blogging efforts.
What does it cost?
Standard Course £197
10 modules with videos
delivered by 10 daily emails
Access to the course is forever.
Access to Pick Vee's Brains private Facebook Group*
Pick Vee’s Brains Private Members Group is where you can get access to me through my private Facebook group where you can post as many trouble-shooting, techie or marketing questions as you like, get feedback & network with your peers. I'm in there every day responding to questions. This private group is only open to people who've bought my programmes.
What other costs are involved?
There are costs associated with owning and running a website and email marketing. They include domain name and hosting plus email marketing subscription. Some stock images also have a small cost element, although I do share resources where you can find very low cost images. You might use a photographer, in which case they may charge you for their services. You also might want to get a logo designed, that will cost and costs will vary depending on who you choose to design it.
As a guide, a co.uk domain costs around £5, .com around £20 (for 2 years) and hosting is around £20 per year. In the course I use Constant Contact for setting up the sign up, autoresponder and newsletter tool and that costs £30+VAT per month.
However, depending on when you sign up, you could be lucky and take advantage of any special deals and offers that the suppliers are running.
What they say
"Everything explained so clearly"
“I found this course incredibly useful and really couldn’t have built my website without it. The one-to-ones, especially, were invaluable.
I had chosen quite a complex theme for my site but Vee’s knowledge of WordPress meant that any query or problem I had, I could run by her in the one-to-one sessions or via the Facebook group.
I was constantly amazed at all the little tricks she knew. She really is a WordPress whiz but at the same time explains everything so clearly.
I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who needs help setting up their business website.”
Laura Muir – BeYourOwnDogTrainer.com
"A new client picked me solely because they liked my website!"
“When I decided to become a full-time VA, my main problem was that I didn't have a website or the capital to invest in one (I know you can find cheap website packages but there have been too many disaster stories surrounding those deals and it's definitely a case of 'you get what you pay for').
Ideally I wanted control over my own website too, but was completely out of my depth in terms of my technical ability so didn't believe that I would ever be able to build one myself.
I took Vee Smith's Biz Website Course and was amazed that over the course of 10 weeks I not only built myself a website that I was really happy with, but that I actually learnt a great deal about Wordpress.
And guess what? Within a month I had already picked up a new client solely based on the strength of my website and ditto the following month (as I had not had time at that point to really promote myself).
I took the standard course which was a real bargain when you not only get complete control over your website, but you have actually added a new skillset to your portfolio.
One of the best things about the course is that Vee has a dedicated Facebook Group, so is on hand to answer any questions you may have (and I asked a lot of questions!), which not only gives you the support you need but also helps to build your confidence. I really can't recommend this course highly enough!
Thank you Vee, this course really has been invaluable to me!.”
I’m Vee Smith and I’m the Biz Tech Wiz. I’ve been building websites since 1997 when the internet was in its infancy and we used dial-up to access it. There were no training courses back then when the company I worked for (a global, multi-million turnover listed company) asked me to build their website. I had to figure it out for myself by trawling the internet and seeing what others were doing and how.
It helped that I was hugely fascinated about this new technology. The bosses were so pleased with website I built that it was used as a showcase for the 30 subsidiaries they owned.
When I set my Virtual Admin business up in 2005 clients loved that I could build and tinker with their websites. I’ve since invested in online marketing training and am Constant Contact Core Certified and an Authorised Local Expert for Constant Contact. I make it my business to keep up to date with what online marketing works for small business owners so I can implement that in the countless websites I’ve created for various small businesses and solopreneurs in the past 10 years.
"Investing in Vee’s Biz Website Course was a fantastic investment"
“I needed a website for my new speaker training business. Being new to business, online marketing was an area I knew nothing about. I wanted to learn for myself but I was worried that building a website myself would be too technical for me.
The Biz Website Course enabled me to get my website set up in less time than I had anticipated and it has been easy to maintain and change to reflect how my business evolves.
Vee’s explanations were clear and simple and I was able to go at my own pace. Explanations are backed up with clear online demo. I liked best that I could do what was being explained in the videos at the same time. For the times when I did get muddled, Vee was available in the Facebook group providing quick solutions and answers.
Investing in Vee’s Biz Website Course was a fantastic investment. It allowed me to develop my knowledge and to create my website in less than a week by just doing a couple of the videos each day. The support materials meant I was quickly able to gather all the information I needed. Being able to refer back to the blogging video training was particularly helpful as this was an ongoing activity and I did not need to rely on having to remember it all from just one session”
